Yulia Svyrydenko: The Dormition Cathedral of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra will be restored
The Dormition Cathedral of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra will be restored, Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko has announced.
“They tried to destroy the Lavra for a second time, just as they did in 1941. Fortunately, we will not have to rebuild this Ukrainian shrine from the ground up, because thanks to the professional actions of our emergency services, the fire caused by a russian drone strike was extinguished,” the Prime Minister said.
“Today, I discussed the restoration of the Dormition Cathedral and the funding required for it with the President. The Government will provide the necessary funding for the restoration works. A decision will be adopted today to urgently allocate resources from the reserve fund for the conservation of the damaged roof and its subsequent restoration.”
Yulia Svyrydenko stressed that Ukraine expects a response from international organisations to this latest barbaric act by russia.
“I have instructed Deputy Prime Minister for Humanitarian Policy Tetyana Berezhna to intensify this work, including through the opportunities provided by the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Fund,” the Prime Minister said.
“Since early this morning, I have also been receiving numerous messages from representatives of Ukrainian businesses and philanthropists who wish to contribute to the restoration of this holy site. I am grateful for our shared values and their willingness to help.”
