Yulia Svyrydenko discusses priority issues and current challenges facing the agricultural sector with representatives of Ukrainian agribusiness

A working meeting with representatives of Ukrainian agribusiness was held, chaired by Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko.

“Agricultural producers are working under shelling, losing people, machinery and infrastructure, but they continue production, support their communities, the economy and food security. Thank you for your resilience and your work,” the Prime Minister emphasised.

According to the Head of Government, tools to support farmers had been presented during the meeting: war risk insurance – compensation of up to UAH 30 million for losses; grants for restoration – up to UAH 16 million for damaged equipment.

The participants also discussed logistics issues in frontline regions.

“We are working on key matters: protecting farmers during sowing and harvesting; the unobstructed export of grain; and a programme to provide agricultural producers with electronic warfare equipment,” Yulia Svyrydenko informed.

According to her, the Government is also working on compensation for losses caused by the construction of fortifications on agricultural land. Draft Law No. 14117 has passed its first reading in the relevant parliamentary committee and is awaiting consideration in the chamber.

A separate focus was placed on farmers working in the 20-kilometre zone from the front line. “We are compiling a list of territories in the State Agrarian Register and developing targeted support programmes,” the Head of Government stressed.

In addition, participants discussed European integration changes that are important for the agricultural sector: environmental requirements, environmental impact assessments, and tax rules. The Prime Minister instructed officials to ensure a constant dialogue with business to help shape Ukraine’s negotiating position for EU accession.
