Yulia Svyrydenko: For passengers’ convenience, border and customs checks will be carried out in train carriages – without lengthy stops at the border

The Government has adopted a decision that will allow border and customs checks to be conducted directly in train carriages – without long stops at the border and without unnecessary stress for passengers, Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko has announced.

“We are making international travel more convenient for Ukrainians,” the Head of Government said. “This format is already in use on certain Intercity+ trains to Poland. Customs and border officers begin checking passengers while the train is moving, as it approaches the border. We now plan to gradually extend this practice to the sleeping cars of overnight international services as well.”

The new procedure will be introduced on the following trains:

• Kyiv – Przemyśl
• Kyiv – Chełm

More than 130,000 Ukrainians travel on these routes every month.

“We expect the faster in-motion checks to start on selected trains as early as January, after which we will roll them out to other trains on these routes. My thanks to the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development, Ukrainian Railways and the State Border Guard Service for coordinating the preparations,” added Yulia Svyrydenko.
