Yulia Svyrydenko: Government has funded 50% of Kyiv’s winter preparation measures; city authorities must step up efforts to ensure readiness for the heating season

Kyiv must be fully prepared for the winter. This is the direct responsibility of the city authorities. Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko emphasized this.

“For its part, the Government has been providing and will continue to deliver all necessary support to the capital. Nearly UAH 4 billion have already been allocated from the State Budget’s reserve fund, ensuring 50% co-financing of the necessary measures, with part of the work being carried out by the Agency for Restoration. Support programs have also been launched, in particular regarding the installation of individual and backup power sources in apartment buildings,” said the Head of Government. “At the same time, we currently do not see sufficient progress in the city’s preparations for the upcoming heating season. There are delays in implementing a number of important measures, which must be promptly addressed.”

The Prime Minister emphasized that there is no more important priority for city authorities today than preparing the capital for winter. Kyiv has the largest budget among all cities in Ukraine, as well as all the necessary resources—including full state support—to ensure proper readiness for the heating season.

“Following the meeting with the city head, a specific list of measures and deadlines for their implementation has been established. The task is clear—Kyiv must be duly prepared in advance for any challenges of the upcoming fall and winter period,” noted Yulia Svyrydenko.

Given the critical importance of properly gearing up the capital for winter, the Government will soon propose that this issue be brought before the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine for the necessary decisions to be made.
