Yulia Svyrydenko: Defence and security budget increased by UAH 1.56 trillion

Ukraine is increasing its defence and security budget by UAH 1.56 trillion, bringing the total to a record UAH 4.4 trillion, Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko announced.

“I am grateful to Members of Parliament for supporting the amendments to the 2026 State Budget. This decision will allow additional resources to be directed towards financing the Defence Forces and protecting our people,” the Prime Minister said.

Following the amendments, UAH 2.3 trillion will be allocated for the procurement of weapons and military equipment, while more than UAH 1.45 trillion will be used for the remuneration of Ukrainian service members.

“The additional resources have become available thanks to the European Union’s EUR 90 billion financial support package and other assistance programmes. This year alone, Ukraine will receive EUR 45 billion. Of this amount, EUR 31.8 billion will be directed towards strengthening the country’s defence capabilities, while a further EUR 13.2 billion will provide budget support and help cover the budget deficit,” Yulia Svyrydenko noted.

In addition to strengthening defence capabilities, the budget amendments provide an extra UAH 40 billion for Comprehensive Regional Resilience Plans. These funds will be used to protect critical infrastructure, provide communities with backup power sources, and ensure reliable heating, water and electricity supplies in the face of russia’s attacks on Ukraine’s energy system.
