Yulia Svyrydenko: Basic social assistance can be applied for in Diia

The Government is changing its approach to social protection for citizens: instead of five different payments, a basic social assistance will now apply.

“It is important to the Government that every Ukrainian family can receive support from the state quickly and without unnecessary bureaucracy,” stated Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko. “That is why we are changing our approach: instead of five different payments, a basic social assistance will now apply. It will allow families in difficult life circumstances to apply for support more quickly and simply. This includes, in particular, low-income families, single mothers and children whose parents evade alimony payments.”

An application for basic social assistance can be submitted online in Diia. Via the app, you will receive a calculation of the monthly payment. If these figures are satisfactory, you submit the application online, without gathering any paper documents.

The amount of assistance is calculated individually. The sum is tied to the base amount, which determines the level of minimum income that should be available per person in the family. At present, this is UAH 4,500.

For now, this is a pilot project planned for two years. At the same time, the Government has approved the relevant bill and submitted it for consideration by the Verkhovna Rada, so it is expected that it will operate on a permanent basis in the future.
