The World Health Organisation (WHO) Regional Office for Europe, the Asia-Europe Foundation and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan have signed a USD 10 million agreement to support the health sector. The deal is aimed at supporting the health emergency response in Ukraine and countries hosting Ukrainian refugees.

The funding will enable the World Health Organisation to strengthen the following areas:

- trauma care and emergency medical services in Ukraine;

- help prevent and control the spread of infectious diseases and ensure continuity of treatment;

- support the countries that are continuously hosting and assisting millions of Ukrainian refugees, including Poland, Moldova, Romania, Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Slovakia, in preventing the outbreak of diseases and improving access to medical care.

The assistance will be focused on the most war-affected regions of Ukraine, giving priority to areas with the most urgent needs.

The agreement is a continuation of WHO's cooperation with the Asia-Europe Foundation and the Government of Japan to ensure access to healthcare for people affected by the war. In times of crisis, this partnership is a powerful testament to the international support for ensuring Ukrainians' right to health and access to medical care.
