  • Introduction and application of geospatial technologies strengthen the development of agribusiness, says Olena Kovaliova at GeoDigital Ukraine

    The further integration of digital technologies and the best international cases on the use of geospatial data into the Ukrainian agrarian sector is an indisputable condition necessary to ensure its rapid and efficient development.

    Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Olena Kovaleva announced during the opening of the First International Geoinformation Technologies Conference GeoDigital Ukraine. The organizers of the conference were the State Service of Ukraine for Geodesy, Cartography and Cadastre (StateGeoCadastre) and the UkrGeo NGO.

    "Today, the cutting edge technologies play an increasingly important role in almost all spheres of public life. In recent years, many Government reforms have been accompanied by appropriate IT-solutions. This year, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food has launched resources such as Pole.Online containing actual data on agricultural crops in each particular region, and Geoportal of remote sensing of the Earth, which makes it possible to track, in particular, the index and forecast of drought, rain and fire danger, which is extremely important for the agriculture development in Ukraine", Olena Kovaliova stressed and thanked organizers and international partners for sharing their professional experience.

    She added that due to the actual digital data it is possible to significantly improve the monitoring and control processes, improve the quality of management decisions and reduce the time for their adoption, provide integrated development of territorial development strategies.

    Within the framework of the conference speakers from Ukraine, Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Hungary, Central Asia and the Caucasus shared with participants the world trends in the sector, presented the latest geo-information technologies and demonstrated successful examples of practical integration of geospatial data to solve sectoral problems. The event was attended by representatives of state and local authorities of Ukraine and the world, leaders of enterprises, potential investors, business, scientists and experts.
