Ukrainian cinema is now an entire industry, it grows in popularity and demonstrates high level. Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman announced this, opening the pre-premiere of "Wild Field", movie which is based on Voroshilovgrad, a novel by Serhiy Zhadan. The book Voroshilovgrad was recognized as the BBC Book of The Decade. Half of the funding for the film production was provided by the state.
"I am glad to be at the premiere. I remember how it all began. Ukrainian cinema was in decline, and the country did not provide the needed support. However, we combined our efforts to allocate assistance. Now it's the whole industry. This year 18 films were released, more than 70 films are being created. The cinema is reviving and shows high standards", the Head of Government said.
Background
Funds for film production in the state budget for 2018 grew twofold compared with 2017 and totaled over UAH 1 billion. According to the Ukrainian state film agency, over the past two years, 78 films of different genres have been created in Ukraine. Since the beginning of this year 18 films have been released.
