Vitalii Koval: Ukrainian agriproduct exports reached USD 2.1 billion in March
In March 2025, Ukraine’s exports of agricultural products totalled 5.4 million tonnes, valued at USD 2.1 billion. With the country’s overall exports amounting to USD 3.6 billion, agriproducts accounted for 58% of the total. Key items included maize and sunflower oil.
Top 5 export categories:
- Maize – USD 514 million / 2.4 million tonnes
- Sunflower oil – USD 503 million / 441,000 tonnes
- Wheat – USD 254 million / 1.1 million tonnes
- Soybeans – USD 150 million / 370,000 tonnes
- Poultry meat – USD 95 million / 41,000 tonnes
Compared to March 2024, the value of exports rose by USD 87 million (+4%). This increase was driven by the sustained prominence of higher-margin products in the export mix – such as sunflower oil, soybeans, and poultry meat – alongside a general rise in agriproduct prices.
“The agricultural sector remains the backbone of Ukraine’s economy, contributing more than half of the country’s foreign currency earnings amid wartime conditions. Our producers continue to demonstrate competitiveness on the global market, while the Ministry consistently works to diversify sales markets and enhance the export potential of the processing industry,” stated Vitalii Koval, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food.
Average export prices for key commodities in March 2025 per tonne were as follows: maize – USD 215, sunflower oil – USD 1,141, wheat – USD 225, soybeans – USD 407, and poultry meat – USD 2,300. This favourable pricing trend on global markets boosted the value of Ukrainian agri-exports.
There was also growth in the export of certain processed products. Compared to March 2024, exports of bakery goods increased by 24% (to USD 29.5 million, up by USD 7.7 million), butter surged by 254% (to USD 9.87 million, up by USD 7.3 million), and cheeses rose by 32% (to USD 5.3 million, up by USD 1.4 million).
The main trading partners in March were Turkey (USD 270.8 million), Italy (USD 171.1 million), Spain (USD 170.4 million), Egypt (USD 162.4 million), and the Netherlands (USD 121.6 million). In total, 36 countries imported Ukrainian agriproducts worth more than USD 10 million each.
