The meeting was chaired by Geoffrey Pyatt, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State and Coordinator of the G7+ efforts to assist Ukraine in rebuilding its energy infrastructure, and attended by Katarína Mathernová, Deputy Director-General for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations at the European Commission.

Participants included Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Rostyslav Shurma, Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko, U.S. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Ukraine Bridget Brink, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the United States Oksana Markarova, and Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Yaroslav Demchenkov.

Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko briefed the participants on the current situation in the energy sector and the results of the autumn-winter period.

“We have survived this winter despite facing extraordinary challenges. We managed to maintain the integrity of the power system and prevent its collapse. I am sincerely grateful to all of Ukraine’s partner countries for their support and assistance during this heating season, which played a very important role and helped us endure,” the Minister said.

During the meeting, the participants also discussed topical issues related to Ukraine’s preparation for the new heating season, the supply of necessary energy equipment for repairs and restoration of damaged energy infrastructure.

The Minister presented the current list of equipment and materials needed for repairs and replenishment of stocks. He underlined that one of the effective mechanisms for providing assistance was the Ukraine Energy Support Fund established under the Energy Community Secretariat.

German Galushchenko stressed that in preparation for the next autumn-winter period, Ukraine had also set a goal to decentralise power generation, which would strengthen the resilience of the energy system to the challenges of war.

The Minister stressed Ukraine’s interest in participating in the EU platform for joint gas purchases and coordinating other preparations for the next winter.
