As part of a working trip to Sumy region, on September 22, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal summoned a meeting on the development of Sumy region, where he stressed the need to develop the tourism potential of the region.

In the meeting were also participating Minister of Culture and Information Policy Oleksandr Tkachenko, head of Sumy Regional State Administration Roman Hryshchenko, representatives of the Government and people's deputies.

The Prime Minister noted that Sumy region has strong opportunities for tourism development, hence, it is critical to pay special attention to supporting the so-called tourist magnets. Among those, in particular, is P. Kharitonenko estate complex. The Head of the Government personally got familiarized with the condition of the cultural and historical monument during the working trip.

Denys Shmyhal noted that the Government would look for additional opportunities to support such facilities, as local communities would benefit from it in the first place.

"Next year, we are planning to include cultural and tourism facilities in the Great Construction project. Regions should prepare proposals that could be funded under the program next year. Set priorities and determine where it is best to invest so that it brings results," said the Prime Minister.

Minister of Culture and Information Policy Oleksandr Tkachenko noted that there is an active community in Sumy region, a large number of festivals and interesting objects that can become tourist magnets. He added that two relevant programs are planned for next year.

"The first is the "Great Restoration" in the culture sector. These are theaters, museums, castles, estates, that could become tourist magnets. We will accept proposals from the regions and consider cooperation between the state and local communities. And the second - the creation of cultural services centers. In fact, this is the transformation of libraries in the regions into modern leisure centers," told Oleksandr Tkachenko.
