Verkhovna Rada appoints Sergii Koretskyi Prime Minister of Ukraine

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has appointed Sergii Koretskyi as Prime Minister of Ukraine. The decision was supported by 289 Members of Parliament during the plenary sitting on 16 July 2026.

Addressing the Parliament, Sergii Koretskyi outlined the key priorities of the new Government. These include supporting the Defence Forces and developing the defence industry, preparing for the heating season, supporting Ukrainians and frontline communities, fostering business development, ensuring the effective use of international assistance, and continuing Ukraine’s European integration.

“Everything this Government does will be measured against one criterion: whether it helps those who are fighting and those for whom we are fighting,” the Prime Minister of Ukraine said.

He stressed that the Cabinet of Ministers will operate on the principles of responsibility, professionalism, efficiency and openness. The new Government is to be a Government of defence, a Government of economic development and a Government of European integration.

The Prime Minister thanked Ukraine’s Defence Forces, the President of Ukraine, Members of Parliament and the Government team for their joint work during the full-scale war, and expressed his readiness to work constructively with the Ukrainian Parliament to deliver shared results.

Background

The previous Cabinet of Ministers, headed by Yulia Svyrydenko, was appointed by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on 17 July 2025. On 16 July 2026, the Verkhovna Rada accepted the resignation of the Prime Minister of Ukraine, after which the Cabinet of Ministers resigned in accordance with the Constitution of Ukraine.
