United Kingdom to help Ukraine overcome energy crisis – Yuliia Svyrydenko

First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yuliia Svyrydenko during an online briefing spoke about agreements reached with the UK during a visit of Ukrainian delegation to London.

One of the most important issues is the restoration of Ukrainian energy infrastructure, which suffered from russian strikes, and ensuring country’s energy security in the future.

“This task is the key one that Ukraine is solving today. And on the instructions of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, all relevant agencies and state authorities of Ukraine are working on it. We can talk about the systematic involvement of British businesses in helping repair Ukraine’s energy system and providing the products necessary to supply electricity in a crisis.

The Department for International Trade and the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy of the United Kingdom are preparing a comprehensive event where all interested British companies could discuss with Ukrainian counterparts all the supply needs, equipment specifications, deliverability, etc. This event will take place on December 12 in Manchester. We also emphasized energy efficiency measures that could help us survive the winter and reduce energy consumption,” said Yuliia Svyrydenko.

Such a simple way as replacing light bulbs with LED lamps could help Ukraine consume 7-10% less electricity at the time of peak consumption. And British colleagues from the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and other institutions have expressed their interest in participating in such projects.

“We also think about the future and the development of generation in Ukraine. We had a discussion with the management of Rolls-Royce SMR energy company about small modular reactors that could be used to power individual settlements or neighborhoods in cities, large enterprises. Such systems are more mobile, flexible in terms of generation needs and safer than modern nuclear power plants. We are talking about involvement of Ukrainian companies in production of equipment and its use in Ukraine,” Yuliia Svyrydenko emphasized.
