On March 10, a meeting of the State Commission for technogenic and environmental safety and emergencies was held, at which issues related to the prevention of the spread of coronavirus in Ukraine were discussed. Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal, line ministers, representatives of security agencies and the heads of Regional State Administrations (via conference call) took part in the meeting.

The key theme of the meeting is the submission of proposals by the state authorities regarding taking of necessary measures to combat the spread of the coronavirus.

"Our goal is to protect the population of Ukraine without causing panic," the Head of Government said.

During the meeting the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) in case of implementation of different scenarios from single cases to large-scale spread of the virus within the country were touched upon. In particular, the issue was raised about the need to adopt a legislative initiative on possible preventive measures in the case of the spread of the COVID-19 virus in accordance with WHO recommendations and taking into account the legislative model of Poland's preventive measures.

In turn, the heads of Regional State Administrations assured that the regions are ready to react to coronavirus cases. At present, medical facilities were identified that can be used for observation in case of the detection of coronavirus among Ukrainian citizens. It was also agreed to establish by the end of the week a commission which will inspect all observation sites.

The heads of Regional State Administrations presented their proposals targeted at preventing the spread of COVID-19 in Ukraine. The final action plan to combat the coronavirus will be approved at a Government meeting on Wednesday, March 11.
