Almost one million hectares of spring grain crops planted in Ukraine


As of April 7, all categories of farms had planted a total of 828,300 hectares of grain and legume crops. This represents 14% of the projected area. Specifically, 111,100 hectares of spring wheat, 420,900 hectares of spring barley, 186,100 hectares of peas, and 86,500 hectares of oats have been sown.

The following regions lead in the pace of fieldwork:

  • Odesa region: 162,000 hectares (wheat – 10,000 hectares, barley – 35,000 hectares, peas – 95,000 hectares, oats – 1,200 hectares);
  • Ternopil region: 80,900 ha (wheat – 13,300 ha, barley – 58,400 ha, peas – 4,100 ha, oats – 4,600 ha);
  • Mykolaiv region: 73,300 ha (wheat – 2,100 ha, barley – 38,500 ha, peas – 31,200 ha, oats – 500 ha).

In some regions, farmers have begun sowing other crops as well. For example, in the Dnipropetrovsk region, 250 hectares have already been planted with millet.

At the same time, farmers continue to sow industrial crops. A total of 60,700 hectares have been sown. Specifically, sugar beets currently cover 42,300 hectares, which is 21% of the forecast.

In addition, farmers in Volyn, Dnipropetrovsk, Lviv, Mykolaiv, Rivne, Sumy, and Ternopil regions have already planted 18,300 hectares with sunflowers.

Farmers in Lviv region have planted 100 hectares with soybeans.
