Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, posted 27 February 2024 16:51

Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted a resolution approving the Regulation on the Information System for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.

The document regulates the functioning of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War and electronic interaction between interested state authorities.

The database of the information system will include data on:

  • Ukrainian defenders held captive by the aggressor state;
  • civilians deprived of their personal liberty as a result of armed aggression;
  • persons missing in connection with the armed conflict, military operations, or the temporary occupation of a part of the territory of Ukraine.

The resolution also improves the work of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, in particular, it regulates the activities of public offices of the Coordination Headquarters and grants rights to operate relevant regional centers.

The Coordination Headquarters also receives the authority to repatriate the bodies (remains) of defenders and expands the possibilities for the return from captivity of civilians deprived of their personal freedom as a result of armed aggression.

"We remember every person who is in captivity and do everything we can to bring them home. I am very thankful to the Government for adopting this decision - it will help us to act more systematically and promptly make decisions on the speedy return of Ukrainian defenders from captivity," said Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Natalia Kalmykova.
