Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture discusses further cooperation with UN World Food Programme in Ukraine

Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine, Denys Bashlyk, met with a delegation from the UN World Food Programme (WFP) in Ukraine, led by Country Director Richard Ragan.

Denys Bashlyk expressed gratitude to the WFP representatives for their support in implementing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s Grain from Ukraine initiative and for assisting with demining agricultural land.

The parties also discussed the potential expansion of the Grain from Ukraine programme to additional African countries that have not yet joined the initiative.

Denys Bashlyk provided an update on preparations for the International Food Security Summit, Food from Ukraine, scheduled for 19 November in Kyiv, and invited WFP representatives to participate.

Background

Grain from Ukraine is an international humanitarian programme launched in 2022 at the initiative of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Its goal is to supply Ukrainian food products to the most vulnerable countries in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, with financial support from donor states and in coordination with the UN World Food Programme (WFP). Despite its name, the programme covers not only grain but also other food products, such as vegetable oil and flour. To date, 18 countries have received food assistance through this initiative.
