The Government has approved changes to the Procedure and Rules for Compulsory Civil Aviation Insurance, which set new minimum insurance amounts (limits of liability) for damage caused by delays in the carriage of passengers, as well as for damage caused to luggage, cargo, or mail. This was announced by the Minister of Infrastructure Vladyslav Kryklii.
"Back in 2008, we joined the Convention for the Unification of Certain Rules for International Carriage by Air, which was signed in Montreal in 1999. This document determines the size of the minimum insurance amounts (so-called limits of liability) of the carrier for damage caused by delay or damage caused to luggage, cargo or mail. ICAO reviews these limits every 5 years, taking into account the inflation rate, and notifies States Parties of changes in the limits of liability. Therefore, in this regard, we also had to bring the necessary regulations in line," the Minister explained.
It should be noted that on June 28, 2019, ICAO announced the revision of the liability limits in the current year and provided updated liability limits, which apply from December 28, 2019.
