Government approves Action Plan for the Implementation of the Concept for Improving the Level of Chemical Safety until 2026
The Government has endorsed an Action Plan for the Implementation of the Concept for Improving the Level of Chemical Safety until 2026. The document was developed by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources in pursuance of the Presidential Decree "On the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine of March 19, 2021 "On measures to improve chemical safety in Ukraine" of March 19, 2021, № 104".
"Creating a comprehensive chemical safety management system has now acquired even greater importance. After defeating the aggressor, it will be vital for us to eliminate the effects of environmental pollution with dangerous chemicals. In addition, in the post-war period the economy and chemical industry will be actively restored, settlements will be rebuilt, so effective monitoring and control tools must be in place," said Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine Ruslan Strilets at a briefing following the Government meeting.
What will the implementation of the planned activities provide? Execution of the document will create the necessary legal basis as well as:
- adapt national legislation to international and European legislation on chemical safety and management of pesticides and biocides;
- improve health legislation against the negative effects of chemicals;
- organize a system of medical care in cases of violations of the requirements of chemical safety and chemical substances management;
- improve the system of monitoring chemicals in the components of the natural environment;
- develop measures to reduce the release of pollutants into the environment;
- create an information system for the management of chemical safety and chemicals;
- strengthen human resources potential and raise public awareness in this area.
