The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved a plan of measures related to the 35th anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster.
According to Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, all authorities should pay maximum attention to the issue of social and medical protection of people affected by the Chornobyl accident, as this is a moral duty of the state.
"People who were saving the lives and health of people in Ukraine, the health of people around the world, deserve to have decent support and protection from the state. They have to feel it every day. Therefore, the approved plan contains measures aimed at improving the social welfare of these people," said the Head of Government.
According to the Action Plan approved by the Government, the Ministry of Social Policy, the Pension Fund of Ukraine, and the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management are to work on increasing pension expenditures for people with disabilities as a result of participation in liquidation the consequences of the Chornobyl NPP disaster and Chornobyl accident victims.
Moreover, the Ministry of Social Policy, the National Social Service and the Ministry of Finance must consider increasing the amount of monetary compensation for the cost of food to citizens affected by the Chornobyl disaster and increasing their annual rehabilitation assistance.
The Plan also provides for the organization and holding of a series of art events, round tables, conferences and events aimed at raising awareness about the Chornobyl accident and honoring the memory of the people who died as a result of the disaster.
