Today, on November 27, the Government has taken a preventive measure in a bid to protect people from gas price fluctuations in winter in the face of the potential lack of gas transit via the Ukrainian GTS. The Guaranteed Gas Price program was developed for this purpose. For the program’s participants, the Government obliged NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine to fix the gas price for the period of the heating season. The price will be reduced by 7% against the showing of the previous year.
"The Government protects people during the heating season. We have ensured stability in the natural gas market in the conditions of the potential lack of gas transit via the Ukrainian gas transmission system. In order to prevent an adverse impact on the price of gas for consumers, we are introducing the possibility of fixing the price through a "deal for the future" tool. Such a practice is widely used throughout the world, but only consumer chooses whether to take advantage of the offer or not," comments Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleksiy Honcharuk.
Under the terms of the program, every consumer of Ukraine from January 1, 2020 (citizens and district heating suppliers) till May 1, 2020, automatically becomes member of the program. The cost price of gas from NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine within the framework of the program will be UAH 6.96 per cubic meter with VAT (excluding tariffs for transportation to the household). This price is record low fixed for the heating season over the past two years.
All, without exception, consumers have a choice whether to stay in the program or leave the program and refuse from the guaranteed price until December 20 this year. In case of withdrawal from the Guaranteed Gas Price program, the consumer will pay for gas at the current monthly market price. The decision is made by each particular consumer independently.
