The Government of Ukraine is implementing a number of major reforms that have not been put in place over the past decades due to the complexity of the processes. That is why the support of partner countries is of unparalleled importance. Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman made this statement during a meeting with Vice-Chancellor and Federal Minister of Finance of the Federal Republic of Germany Olaf Scholz. These talks kicked off the working visit of the Head of Government to Germany. Volodymyr Groysman is scheduled to meet with the country's top officials, leading German politicians, and together with the Federal Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Angela Merkel will open the Third German-Ukrainian Business Forum.
In the course of the meeting with the Vice-Chancellor and Federal Minister of Finance of Germany, the Prime Minister stressed that due to the increased Russian aggression Ukraine has to implement not only decisive political decisions but also to carry out a balanced and consistent economic policy. Including, in the context of the continuation of already initiated reforms in education, health care, pension systems, and decentralization.
"My Government team has already endorsed a series of decisions which the previous governments hesitated to implement. Among them - the reform of the energy sector and adjustment of gas prices, the appointment of supervisory boards in leading state enterprises, the change of the state apparatus in the framework of the public administration reform ", Volodymyr Groysman underscored.
Among the priorities for the subsequent periods are driving economic growth, further invigorating of business activity through improving the investment climate, ensuring the rule of law and curbing corruption, restoring the security of the State and citizens.
According to the Prime Minister, the Government seeks to leverage as much investment as possible. During the meeting, the Head of Government introduced to the Vice-Chancellor Olaf Scholz the newly appointed Minister of Finance of Ukraine Oksana Markarova.
Background
Germany is the largest partner of Ukraine among the EU countries and enters TOP5 largest trading partners of Ukraine in the world. The share of the Federal Republic of Germany trade in the foreign trade turnover of Ukraine with the countries of the European Union exceeds 17%. During 9 months 2018, the mutual trade turnover accounted for about $6 billion, with exports growing by over 20%. During a recent visit by the Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel to Kyiv, Kyiv and Berlin at the level of heads of government agreed to exert every effort to bring the mutual trade turnover to $10 billion per annum.
