Thursday, October 29, on a commission of the President of Ukraine, the Cabinet of Ministers summoned an extraordinary meeting to tackle certain issues of activity of the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP) were considered. The sitting of the Government took place in the presence of the President of Ukraine following the sitting of the National Security and Defense Council.
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal reminded that on February 26, 2019, the Constitutional Court of Ukraine had declared the article on "illegal enrichment" unconstitutional.
"Immediately after Volodymyr Zelenskyy became President, he regained criminal responsibility for illicit enrichment. This fact confirmed that the President's team is fully committed to the endeavor to eradicate corruption in Ukraine," the Prime Minister urged.
Denys Shmyhal stressed that a similar situation had repeated lately, when the Constitutional Court had declared unconstitutional some provisions of the legislation on the National Agency on Corruption Prevention.
"E-declaration is a way towards transparency and honesty of officials. Today, the Cabinet of Ministers, on the initiative of the President of Ukraine, approves a decision that will be a step towards the resumption of full-fledged work of the register of declarations. Every Ukrainian citizen will have a chance to enter the website again and see the declarations of officials and politicians. Including those politicians who are trying to destroy anti-corruption reform," said the Prime Minister.
On the outcomes of the consideration of the issue, the Government decided that it would allow the NACP to provide open access to the Unified State Register of Declarations and conduct special inspections in accordance with the requirements of the legislation.
According to the Prime Minister, this decision of the Government is only one of the steps to ensure the full-fledged work of anti-corruption bodies.
The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked the Cabinet of Ministers for the prompt response and noted that the adopted decision was an example of a coordinated work of the state for the benefit of the society.
