October 29, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France to Ukraine Mr. Etienne de Poncins and Economic Attaché Ms. Mathilde Arjakovsky paid an official visit to Chernobyl NPP.
During the visit, the delegation met with the leaders of the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management (SAUEZM) and SSE Chornobyl NPP, and also visited the NSC (New Safe Confinement).
Mr. Ambassador expressed excitement from the grandeur and scale of the NSC, as well as the strength of spirit and professionalism of all those involved in the design and construction of the facility.
The Head of the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management Serhii Kalashnyk thanked the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France to Ukraine Mr. Etienne de Poncins for effective and comprehensive support of Ukraine in solving the Chornobyl-related problems.
“The construction of the NSC is a successful example of the implementation of an international project that has made it possible to reliably protect humanity and the environment from the impact of the destroyed 4th power unit of the Chernobyl NPP for 100 years. We are grateful to the French Republic, which was a contributor to the Chernobyl Shelter Fund, as well as the NOVARKA consortium, which includes the French companies Vinci Construction Grand Projects and Bouygues Construction, which were builting the NSC facility," stressed Serhii Kalashnyk, head of SAUEZM.
Valerii Seyda, First Deputy Director General of the Chernobyl NPP, also thanked the Ambassador of France to Ukraine, Mr. Etienne de Poncins, for many years of efficient support in overcoming the consequences of the Chernobyl accident and the transformation of the Shelter facility into an environmentally safe system.
