Today, on November 20, World Children's Day, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved a decision that will simplify the crossing of the demarcation line for teenagers who are forced to live in the occupied territory of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
The Government's decision provides:
- simplifying of the procedure of crossing the demarcation line by persons under 16 on the basis of the birth certificate;
- simplifying the procedure of conveyance of goods through the demarcation line by natural persons;
- making changes to the official document about submission of documents that will be the basis for the registration and obtaining of the passport of the citizen of Ukraine, the passport of the citizen of Ukraine for traveling outside Ukraine, the temporary certificate of the citizen of Ukraine, certifying the said facts and being a circumstance, which is taken into account during the moving of persons through the demarcation line.
The process of reintegration of temporarily occupied territories is long, complicated, and even controversial. But at its center is a simple person and the readiness of the state to protect its interests.
In addition, the definition of "hand luggage" has been excluded. This seemingly insignificant detail eliminates corruption risks, reduces queues and generally simplifies the lives of ordinary Ukrainians who are forced to live in a temporarily occupied territory. The new rules will take effect in late November 2019.
