  • Government grants lifelong state scholarships to Ukrainian citizens who rescued Jews during the Holocaust

    On September 8, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted a resolution "Some issues of assignment and payment of lifetime state scholarships for Ukrainian citizens who rescued Jews in Ukraine during the Holocaust during the Second World War and recognizing of the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine of February 24, 2016, № 139 and of August 9, 2017, № 568 as having lost force".

    The decision was developed in pursuance of the Decree of the President of Ukraine of 14.05.2021 № 193 "On lifelong state scholarships for citizens of Ukraine who rescued Jews in Ukraine during the Holocaust during the Second World War."

    Lifetime state scholarships from June 1, 2021, were awarded to 26 citizens of Ukraine who had rescued Jews in Ukraine during the Holocaust during World War II and were awarded the title of The Righteous Among the Nations by the Yad Vashem The Holocaust Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance Authority or the Jewish Council of Ukraine - the title of The Righteous of Ukraine or The Righteous of the Babyn Yar.

    They are also provided with a monthly payment at the place of receiving a pension in the amount of three subsistence minimums for persons who have lost their ability to work, regardless of the amount of pension or salary.
