The Government is concentrating its efforts on humanitarian demining and this year it plans to conduct a technical survey of territories with a total area of 31,000 square kilometres. Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal announced this during a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on 21 March.
"We are currently working on the demining of agricultural land as a priority. We understand how important this is in the context of the new sowing season. We already have more than 80 certified mine action operators and more than 200 demining vehicles," the Prime Minister said. He added that, according to the World Bank, about USD 30 billion is needed to fully demine the territory of Ukraine.
Denys Shmyhal highlighted the financial and technical support provided by international partners in the area of demining. He noted that thanks to this assistance, the process of clearing the territories of mines would significantly accelerate and allow us to demine the territory of our country ‘in years, not decades’.
