The Government has decided to allocate more than UAH 1.5 billion to maintain the safe condition of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant’s shelter. This was announced by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal at a meeting of the Cabinet on 18 February.

“We are increasing funding by 139 million compared to 2024,” he stressed, adding that russia had once again resorted to terrorism against nuclear facilities.

“The drone attack on the Chornobyl NPP shelter is an attempt to intimidate Ukraine, Europe and the world. Currently, there is no radiation threat, work is underway to eliminate the consequences of the attack,” said Denys Shmyhal.

The Prime Minister also said that the Government had made a decision that would allow to attract a EUR 400 million loan from the European Investment Bank: “These are, in particular, funds for energy-efficient reconstruction.”

In addition, according to Denys Shmyhal, the Government continues to stimulate the development of decentralised power generation through soft loans for people and businesses.

He noted that more than UAH 13 billion had been provided by banks to entrepreneurs in the form of loans for the installation of solar panels, wind turbines, gas turbines, gas piston plants and other equipment.

“Ukrainians also received energy loans worth over UAH 730 million. All this will allow us to increase capacity by approximately 530 MW. The energy sector remains one of the recovery priorities for this year,” the Prime Minister stressed.
