    Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, posted 31 May 2023 14:47

    The Government has amended the Regulation on the preparation and conduct of conscription of Ukrainian citizens for regular military service and the acceptance of conscripts for military service under contract. The Cabinet of Ministers adopted the relevant resolution, which was prepared by the Ministry of Defence. The document will bring certain provisions of the Regulation in line with the requirements of Ukrainian legislation on granting deferments or exemptions from regular military service to citizens.

    In particular, the amendments are intended to:

    1. define the grounds for granting a deferment from conscription for regular military service to a conscript who has a child (children) under the age of 18 and is the sole provider for such child (children);

    2. abolish the grounds for granting deferment of military service to conscripts who have a disabled child or spouse;

    3. specify the grounds for exemption from conscription for regular military service for conscripts:

    • who are raising a child with a disability under the age of 18;
    • who are raising a child with a severe illness;
    • who have a spouse with a disability;
    • who are caring for persons with disabilities or persons in need of care.

    The Resolution was adopted to implement the requirements of the Law of Ukraine “On amendments to certain laws of Ukraine regarding exemption from military service of persons with disabilities and persons caring for persons with disabilities and ill children” and the Law of Ukraine “On amendments to certain laws of Ukraine regarding exemption from military service of certain categories of citizens”.
