The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted the Resolution “On amendments to the resolutions of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated 19 April 2022 No. 472 and 8 November 2022 No. 1256”. The resolution expands the list of areas in which education and science funds can be used.

Now, they include the restoration and modernisation of canteens in educational institutions, as well as improving the quality of food – the amount of funding for them is being increased. The source of funding will be funds from individuals and legal entities, residents and non-residents, charitable donations, humanitarian aid, grants and gifts received on the UNITED24 account for education and science.

The UN World Food Programme also plans to expand the number of schools covered in two more regions in the 2024-2025 academic year. In the 2023-2024 school year, WFP funded meals for nearly 90,000 children in about 700 schools in 13 regions of Ukraine.

In the future, governments, governmental and non-governmental institutions in the European Union, the United States and Asia may become partners in school meals reform.

This resolution is an important step in the school meals reform, the development and implementation of which was initiated by First Lady Olena Zelenska.
