The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved the Strategy of Demographic Development of Ukraine until 2040, developed by the Ministry of Social Policy.

This is a step to further implement demographic policy and counter the challenges posed by russian aggression, as well as one of the indicators of Ukraine's plan to implement the EU's Ukraine Facility initiative aimed at improving the labor market and living standards of Ukrainians. The document identifies demographic threats to Ukraine's development and ways to overcome them.

“Ukraine has a lot to build on: convenient digital public services, affordable healthcare, a comfortable climate, and a significant cultural heritage. We can become a global center for the development of military technologies, provide rehabilitation and prosthetics services, and start rebuilding our infrastructure better than before, which will open up opportunities for professional and career self-realization. Realizing all these benefits will help Ukrainians return to their homeland,” said Oksana Zholnovych, Minister of Social Policy of Ukraine.

The Strategy of Demographic Development of Ukraine is aimed at implementing sectoral policies to increase the birth rate, reduce premature mortality and return migrants. The document also envisages the creation of cross-cutting conditions for a comfortable life in Ukraine: affordable housing, high-quality public infrastructure, a safe environment, barrier-free environment, inclusive labor market and social cohesion of the population, ensuring equal rights and opportunities, freedom and dignity of citizens.

The next step is for the Ministry of Social Policy, together with other responsible institutions, to develop and complete an Action Plan that will ensure the coordinated implementation of the Strategy to achieve Ukraine's demographic development.

As a reminder, the Ministry of Social Policy has developed the Demographic Development Strategy until 2040 with the support of UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund in Ukraine, together with a wide range of experts, the Institute for Demography and Life Quality Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, government authorities, international partners, and demographic experts from different countries.
