Government simplifies environmental impact assessment procedure for businesses in areas affected by hostilities

A pilot project will shorten the environmental impact assessment (EIA) procedure and reduce costs for businesses operating or resuming activities in affected areas.

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved a resolution launching a pilot project on the specific procedures for conducting environmental impact assessments in areas where hostilities are ongoing or have taken place.

The decision is aimed at simplifying the process of obtaining permits for businesses during martial law. It applies to territories included in the list approved by the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development.

At present, the environmental impact assessment procedure is lengthy, with a minimum duration of 52 working days. Under the pilot project, this period is expected to be reduced by 12 working days.

The project also provides for a reduction in the fee charged for public consultations conducted as part of the environmental impact assessment process.

Environmental impact assessment remains an important tool for environmental protection. It helps ensure that public, private and state interests are taken into account when decisions are made regarding economic activities that may have a significant impact on the environment.

The introduction of the pilot project is intended to help businesses launch and restore operations more quickly in areas affected by hostilities, while maintaining environmental protection standards.
