The Government has approved the draft Law of Ukraine "On Ratification of the Grant Agreement between the Government of Ukraine and the Government of the French Republic to Promote the Restoration and Support of Critical Infrastructure and Priority Sectors of the Ukrainian Economy" and the draft decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. The adoption of these documents is necessary to attract EUR 200 million in grant funds for the reconstruction and restoration of critical infrastructure and projects in priority sectors of the economy. The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the relevant decision at a meeting on 2 August 2024.
"In early June, during a visit to Paris, we agreed with the French Government that Ukraine will be provided with grants worth EUR 200 million to help the country recover from the consequences of russia's armed aggression. Today, we have taken another step to finalise the necessary internal procedures to receive these funds," explained Yuliia Svyrydenko, First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Economy of Ukraine.
According to her, under the terms of the signed agreement, these funds are intended for those companies that will invest in critical infrastructure to rebuild Ukraine. The assistance from the French Government will be directed primarily to the reconstruction and restoration of critical infrastructure in the following sectors: energy, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, water supply and sewage, waste management, and waste recycling, demining, housing construction and digital technologies.
To enter into force, the Government's draft law must still be supported by the Verkhovna Rada and then signed by the President.
As a reminder, on 7 June, in the presence of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President of France Emmanuel Macron, the Government of the French Republic and the Government of Ukraine signed a Grant Agreement to support the restoration and maintenance of critical infrastructure and priority sectors of Ukraine's economy. The agreement was signed by the First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yuliia Svyrydenko.
