  • Government approves draft law that creates the basis for the development of the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone

    At its session, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the draft law "On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine on the Development of Territories Affected by Radioactive Contamination as a Result of the Chornobyl Disaster".

    The document amends six laws of Ukraine and introduces a legal framework for the following:

    • transforming the Exclusion Zone into a modern scientific platform for research;
    • simplifying the rules for tourists visiting the Exclusion Zone. Despite the fact that the aggressive war of the russian federation has suspended the development of this area, we need to regulate the issue at the legislative level;
    • introducing transparent rules for economic activity in the Exclusion Zone;
    • creating conditions for the development of the Chornobyl Radiation and Ecological Biosphere Reserve. The document proposes to resolve the issue of financing measures for the development of the reserve, its fire protection and scientific research.

    "Approval of this document is the first step towards the implementation of the concept of transforming the Exclusion Zone into the Revival Zone. It is important to create all the necessary conditions so that after Ukraine's victory, our international partners, investors and the public are confident in the transparent and unhindered development of this unique Zone," said Ruslan Strilets, Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources.
