Government allocates funding for shelters in 79 schools and kindergartens
The Government continues its systematic efforts to ensure a safe educational environment for children and educators. Today, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the allocation of funding for the construction of shelters in educational institutions. This was announced by Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.
Specifically, the following resources are allocated for schools:
• UAH 2.7 billion for the implementation of 61 projects in frontline communities with varying levels of security risks.
“A preliminary allocation for another 30 projects was made in March. In total, 113 school shelters will be built in 2026 at a cost of nearly UAH 5 billion,” the Head of Government noted.
Repairs and construction of shelters in general secondary education institutions are carried out by communities using state subsidies with the support of international partners as part of a joint program with the World Bank (LEARN).
• More than UAH 972 million will be disbursed for the construction of 18 underground shelters in kindergartens in the Vinnytsia, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kyiv, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Kherson regions.
“Tens of thousands of children across the country will be able to attend school in person or in a mixee format under safer conditions, without forced interruptions due to air raid alerts,” emphasized Yulia Svyrydenko, adding that frontline communities remain a priority, as well as facilities that are scheduled to be completed this year.
