Government working to increase financial support for frontline communities

The Government will soon decide on the allocation of additional grants to local budgets affected by russia’s armed aggression, Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko announced following a meeting held with Head of the Presidential Office Kyrylo Budanov, government officials and Members of Parliament.

The meeting focused on key issues related to social support for frontline regions and identified a list of priority actions.

Today, more than 6 million people live in 216 communities across ten frontline regions. Despite daily russian attacks, schools, hospitals, businesses and municipal services continue to operate.

“Our priority is to ensure that people receive adequate support and to preserve the resilience and economic activity of frontline communities,” the Prime Minister stressed.

Special attention was given to support for children, including accommodation for internally displaced children and assistance for the children of fallen defenders.

Yulia Svyrydenko noted that the Government is already implementing a comprehensive package of 60 support programmes for frontline territories.

These include safe education measures (underground schools and kindergartens, as well as free hot meals for more than 728,000 pupils), healthcare support (additional payments for medical staff, continued financing of healthcare facilities and targeted assistance for doctors), support for internally displaced persons and vulnerable groups, and expanded opportunities for Ukrainian manufacturers through the Made in Ukraine programmes.

According to the Prime Minister, a separate focus is preparation for winter. Under Regional Resilience Plans, communities are being equipped with backup power, heating and water supply systems.
