Government increases minimum pension payments for families of fallen and missing defenders
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has adopted a decision to significantly increase targeted assistance for family members of military personnel who were killed or went missing while defending Ukraine from russian aggression. The new payment amounts will take effect from 1 March 2026.
Under the Government decision, the minimum pension payment per non-working family member – parents, wife or husband of a fallen Defender, as well as for one child of a fallen service member who has been awarded state social assistance instead of a pension – will be no less than UAH 12,810 per person. The current minimum is UAH 7,800.
Minimum payments will also increase for families where a pension is assigned to two or more family members of a fallen Defender (excluding non-working parents, wife or husband), and state social assistance is assigned to two or more children of a fallen Defender. In such cases, the payment will be no less than UAH 10,020 per family member, up from the current UAH 6,100.
These amounts will be indexed annually starting from 1 March 2027.
“Supporting the families of our fallen and missing Defenders is an unconditional priority for the state. Today we are strengthening social guarantees for those who paid the highest price for Ukraine’s freedom. Increasing payments and their subsequent annual indexation is about justice, gratitude, and long-term care for the families of Heroes,” noted Minister of Social Policy, Family and Unity Denys Uliutin.
In addition, the Government has approved the budget of the Pension Fund of Ukraine for 2026, which provides the necessary funds for the indexation of pensions and insurance payments from 1 March 2026.
