The Government has adopted a decision that allows university hospitals of Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University and Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine to receive funding for the provision of medical services under the state medical guarantee programme.

“Establishing strong university hospitals is one of the key steps towards improving the quality of both medical education in Ukraine and medical care in general. It is about creating modern high-quality medicine in our country. The decision taken by the Government allows the first two university hospitals to operate under the medical guarantee programme, and thus form a sustainable financial base for providing quality medical care and training highly qualified medical professionals. Every student, intern and doctor will be able to improve their professional skills in practice, and patients will be able to receive effective treatment,” said Minister of Health Viktor Liashko.

The Ministry of Health of Ukraine continues to work on improving the educational process in higher medical education institutions and creating a new educational and research medical space – university hospitals.

The university hospital is to become a powerful, multidisciplinary healthcare facility that ensures the integration of medical practice, education and science in the training of future medical professionals, as well as their constant access to practical medicine to master the maximum scope of clinical skills. It is planned that the best specialists with unique experience will be employed at the university hospital to provide medical and rehabilitation care.

Earlier this year, the Government decided to transfer the property of the Lviv Railway Hospital to establish the university hospital of Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University.
