Ukraine is a good example to the world of achieving strategic goals and of brave struggle against a force that is bigger and more ambitious. This was stated by President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis during a meeting with Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman. The President of Latvia is on a working visit to Ukraine and today, on November 24, he took part in the commemorative events on the occasion of the 85th anniversary of the Holodomor of 1932-1933.
Volodymyr Groysman emphasized that Latvia has always been a true friend of Ukraine and has always adhered to the policy of condemnation of the annexation of Crimea, violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our state. Apart from that, the Prime Minister praised plans of Presidentof Latvia to visit Donbas and see what happens on the collision line.
"We understand your pain," said the President of Latvia. "And we are here to be together with you. We have been and will be an advocate of Ukraine at the international level and support your desire to become part of the European Union and NATO. Together, we will be stronger and able to withstand the challenges of the present. Ukraine serves as a good example for us of how to achieve our goals. You are in such a difficult situation - the annexation of Crimea by Russia, the presence of Russian troops on the Ukrainian territory, the failure of Kremlin to reach an agreement on peace. And we see how courageously you are struggling with a force that seems bigger. You have shown how much you can do if you are working diligently to achieve targets".
The Head of Government briefed the President of Latvia on the economic achievements, the course of reforms and plans for the next year. The parties also noted the positive development of economic cooperation between the two countries. Thus, in 9 months of the year, bilateral trade grew by more than 40% - to $ 331 million, and according to the results of the year may reach $ 0.5 billion.
Cooperation in logistics is booming - since September, the “Four Capitals Train” connecting Kyiv, Minsk, Vilnius, and Riga has been launched.
