  • Ukraine and China have significant prospects for strengthening cooperation in clean energy, waste treatment and energy efficiency

    The current legal framework and investment-friendly environment for green investments in Ukraine was presented by Head of the State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine Serhii Savchuk to Chinese business representatives at the II Ukrainian-Chinese Economic Cooperation Forum organized by the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the China Overseas Chinese Entrepreneurs Association.

    At the opening of the Forum, the first President of Ukraine, Honorable President of the Ukraine-China Association Leonid Kravchuk assured of the importance and mutual benefit of the partnership between the two countries and emphasized that Ukraine, as never before, needs strong economic development and investments, while China is a reliable partner in this matter.

    For his part, Serhii Savchuk said that Ukraine had already established close cooperation with China in energy efficiency and green energy. The relevant Memorandum was signed between the State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine and the National Energy Administration of China in December 2017, with the participation of First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine/ Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine Stepan Kubiv.

    A number of negotiations with the relevant Chinese departments to ensure implementation of the Memorandum have taken place.

    In synergy with the Chinese companies there was initiated the setting up of a joint Renewable Energy Working Group. Within the framework of the Working Group the issues of exchange of experience in stimulating the implementation of green projects, as well as opportunities for the development and implementation of a joint pilot project on biogas production have been under development.

    Apart from that, China, as one of the world's top nations in the green energy sector growth, is actively involved in installing new renewable energy facilities in Ukraine. In particular, recently an agreement was signed between DTEK's companies and China Machinery Engineering Company to construct 200 MW solar plant in Nikopol (Dnipropetrovsk region).

    Meanwhile, Serhii Savchuk called on the business community to expand partnership and actively explore the prospects for implementation of projects in energy efficiency, clean energy, waste treatment.
