Ukraine is becoming a serious player in the European aviation market. In this context, it is important to strengthen the role of the Boryspil airport as a regional hub and work in synergy with international partners on the development of regional airports. This was stated by Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman during a special government meeting dedicated to the situation in the aviation industry, the results of work for the first nine months of the year and the prospects for the next year.
According to the data provided by the State Statistics Service, the aviation industry demonstrates a steady growth, and by the end of the year, the absolute figure of passenger traffic is expected to be about 20 million passengers.
"This is a quantum leap forward, and we have become a serious player in the air transportation market", Volodymyr Groysman said. "We need to strengthen it, open the world for the Ukrainians and make it accessible. This is the task I set. "
According to the Head of Government, today a third of the air traffic is transit passengers, who choose Kyiv as the place of transfer. And this is a positive sign for implementing the hub strategy.
"At the same time, the development of regional airports is incredibly important. Odesa, Lviv, Kharkiv, Kherson - passenger traffic is also growing there. We need to shape a global program for their development. I will offer specific projects for the development of airports to international partners. The state, international institutions and local governments - together we can make development programs and ensure a new quality of services. Ukrainians will feel it", Volodymyr Groysman summed up.
