  • Ukraine deepens cooperation with Qatar in transport infrastructure field, says Vladyslav Kryklii

    Ukraine is deepening cooperation with Qatar in the field of transport infrastructure. This was stated by Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Vladyslav Kryklii during a bilateral meeting with Minister of Transport and Communications of Qatar His Excellency Jassim bin Saif Al Sulaiti today, February 18, 2020, in Doha (Qatar). The meeting was part of the Minister’s working visit to the State of Qatar to participate in the Qatar Maritime and Logistics Summit 2020.

    The parties discussed achievements, promising areas of cooperation and deepening of cooperation in the field of transport infrastructure and international logistics.

    Vladyslav Kryklii confirmed the readiness of the Ukrainian side to hold bilateral consultations in order to agree on the draft Agreement in the field of maritime transport, and also informed that the procedure of domestic approval of the draft and obtaining the powers to sign the Memorandum on recognition of diplomas/certificates of seafarers was initiated.

    The Infrastructure Minister stressed that Ukraine is keen on involving Qatari companies in the implementation of joint investment projects for the development of transport infrastructure: "Ukraine is stepping up cooperation with Qatar in the field of transport infrastructure. Today, a number of attractive projects for the development of highways, airports, railways and postal service, seaports are proposed for investors' consideration. A good example of further cooperation is that Qatari company QTerminals has won the competition for the Olvia seaport concession. QTerminals has extensive experience in managing large ports effectively which will contribute to the development of the maritime industry in Ukraine, and in turn, the signing of the Maritime Transport Agreement and the Memorandum of recognition of seafarers' diplomas/certificates will open new perspectives, "said Vladyslav Kryklii.

    Moreover, the Minister of Infrastructure accentuated that issue related to the extension of flight geography, in particular to/from regional airports remains on the agenda and suggested to consider the possibility of cargo transportation.

    The Minister of Transport and Communications of Qatar he commended effective cooperation in the aviation and port areas and noted that special attention is being paid to the investment cooperation between Qatar and Ukraine.
