  • Ukraine to provide humanitarian assistance to the Lebanese Republic

    The relevant draft order was adopted by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on August 17 at an extraordinary meeting.

    Pursuant to the decree of the President of Ukraine of August 14, 2020, the Government ordered to allocate UAH 8.4 million from the reserve fund of the State Budget to the Ministry of Internal Affairs to provide humanitarian assistance to the victims of the explosion in Beirut.

    The Ministry of Internal Affairs, together with the State Emergency Service and the National Guards, must ensure the purchase, shipping, delivery and transfer of humanitarian aid in the form of medicines, medical devices and wheat flour.

    As was reported, on August 4, 2020, near the seaport in Beirut there occurred two extremely powerful explosions with the subsequent fires killing 220 people (1 citizen of Ukraine), 110 people are considered missing, over 6,000 people suffered, about 300,000 persons were left homeless.

    The blast destroyed more than 80,000 buildings, 12 medical centers, 3 hospitals, food warehouses, buildings and cars within a radius of 10 km.
