Ukrainian nuclear scientists to work on innovations at Nuclear Energy Agency: results of agreements between German Galushchenko, William Magwood and British partners
The Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) is launching the NEA-Ukraine Visiting Experts Programme, under which it will accept experts from the Ukrainian nuclear sector to share their experience and expand cooperation in nuclear technology, nuclear safety and regulation.
The launch of the programme was jointly announced by NEA Director-General William Magwood, Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko and Parliamentary Under Secretary of State (Minister for Energy Efficiency and Green Finance) Lord Martin Callanan at the Roadmaps to New Nuclear Conference in Paris, which is being held at the initiative of the NEA.
"We are grateful to the Nuclear Energy Agency and our British partners for this opportunity for Ukrainian nuclear scientists to work in the centre of innovation to deepen international cooperation in the industry. The nuclear renaissance is not an illusion, but a real future that Ukraine will bring closer by joint efforts with the world's leading scientists," emphasised German Galushchenko.
The cooperation programme provides for the involvement of Ukrainian nuclear experts in the work of the NEA Secretariat on a rotational basis. The UK will finance the visit of the first experts - representatives of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine. These experts will work at the NEA on radiological protection issues related to the deployment of small modular reactors, as well as support the NEA's longstanding work on nuclear safety and regulation.
The NEA is an intergovernmental body that brings together experts from countries with the greatest experience and capabilities in a wide range of civilian nuclear energy technologies and policy issues from the United States, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. NEA members include 34 countries that operate about 80% of the world's installed nuclear power generation capacity.
