Ukraine’s energy sector will enter the winter season fully prepared and able to recover quickly in the event of russian shelling. Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko said this in the national news telethon.
“The repair campaign in the energy sector, the largest since Ukraine’s independence, is coming to an end. By the beginning of the heating season, the power system will be fully prepared for winter – both in terms of generation and transmission,” the Minister said.
He predicted that russia would continue to terrorise Ukraine’s energy system, but it was currently difficult to assess the scale of possible attacks.
“We understand that there will be such attacks. Today, for the first time in a long time, an energy facility was hit, and despite the damage, everything is working properly. Ukrainian power engineers are prepared and will make decisions to eliminate the consequences of the attacks as quickly as possible,” the Minister said.
According to German Galushchenko, the enemy is shelling the border regions most intensively. In particular, daily attacks are recorded in Chernihiv, Sumy and Kherson regions. Repair work is also being carried out on a daily basis, with electricians from other regions joining the repair teams.
“We have mobilised the whole of Ukraine to restore power to the most affected regions, and crews from all over Ukraine are working in regions where the situation is difficult due to shelling,” the Minister added.
At the same time, russian terrorist actions are delaying the repairs. According to the Minister, the russians are targeting the repair crews.
“There have been numerous cases where a crew that came to repair the networks was fired upon. As soon as they stop and raise the tower to work at height, the targeted shelling begins. Unfortunately, there have been deaths and injuries among the power engineers. And this is another proof that terrorism is a common practice for russia,” said German Galushchenko.
