On November 27, a Special Discussion was held at the Joint meeting of the Forum for Security Co-operation and Permanent Council of the OSCE, dedicated to the use of strategic weaponry by russia in its aggression against Ukraine.
The discussion was convened at the request of Ukraine by the Chairpersonships of Malta in the OSCE and Denmark in the Forum for Security Co-operation due to russia’s strike on Dnipro with intermediate-range ballistic missile on November 21.
The Ukrainian delegation emphasized that this strike had become another step by russia towards the expansion of the war, as well as tactics of blackmail and intimidation. Together with the involvement by russia of North Korean troops in hostilities against Ukraine, strikes on Ukrainian nuclear energy facilities, and systematic attacks on critical infrastructure of Ukraine, the ballistic missile strike on Dnipro proves once again that russia only seeks to continue this war.
“The civilised world must react to the expansion of war by russia timely and decisively. It is crucial to exert even more pressure on putin and his regime, including through the intensification of international sanctions and closure of existing loopholes. The same goes to such russia’s allies as Iran, North Korea and belarus. The best response to putin’s threats is to force him to comprehensive, just and lasting peace,” the Ukrainian delegation highlighted.
OSCE participating States strongly condemned the use by russia of a new type of missile weaponry to strike one of Ukraine’s largest cities. Partners also reiterated their determination to continue providing Ukraine with all necessary assistance, despite russia’s attempts at intimidation.
