  • Ukraine and EU agree to increase winter electricity import capacity to 2.1 GW
Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, posted 29 October 2024 12:28

“From 1 December, the maximum capacity for importing electricity from the EU will be increased from the current 1.7 to 2.1 GW. This will increase the resilience of the Ukrainian energy system in the face of criminal russian shelling and infrastructure destruction. I am grateful to our European partners, in particular to European Commissioner Kadri Simson, for their consistent position and effective steps to support our energy system on the eve of winter,” said Minister of Energy German Galushchenko.

The need to make an important decision to increase import capacity was discussed at a meeting between President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen in Kyiv in September.

In addition, Ukraine will have the opportunity to receive an additional 250 MW of guaranteed capacity from the EU in the emergency mode.
