Ukraine and the EIB expand cooperation in the energy sector

Minister of Energy of Ukraine Svitlana Grynchuk met with the Head of the European Investment Bank's Regional Hub for Eastern Europe, Kristina Mikulova.

The parties discussed key areas of cooperation in the energy sector, including the implementation of sustainable solutions along with the restoration of energy infrastructure damaged by russian aggression.

The parties reviewed the potential for the development of decentralized distributed generation, decarbonization of the energy sector, implementation of smart grids and metering systems, use of alternative energy sources, including biomethane, and accumulation of natural gas as part of the preparation for the heating season.

Special attention was paid to projects for the development of interstate power transmission lines in the short and long term. The parties agreed on the need to develop a list of priority areas of cooperation, taking into account the climate policy of the European Union and the European Investment Bank.

The Minister thanked Kristina Mikulova for her support of Ukraine, in particular within the framework of the JASPERS advisory initiative, which helps in the preparation of high-quality investment projects. They also discussed the possibility of attracting new EU financial instruments to implement strategic projects in the energy sector.
