Ukraine and Japan expand cooperation in artificial intelligence, drones and unmanned systems
Joint projects in artificial intelligence, drones and unmanned systems, robotics, energy and cybersecurity, as well as tools to support Ukrainian-Japanese business, were discussed at the Ukraine-Japan Advanced Technology Business Forum in Kobe, Japan.
Specific financial and insurance instruments are already available for partnership projects between Ukrainian and Japanese companies. At the "From Interest to Business" panel, Business Engagement Adviser Oksana Havryliv presented the opportunities open to both sides. Japanese support programs include JICA grants for pilot projects, a JBIC credit line through BSTDB, and NEXI war risk insurance. For investors in Ukraine, the options include state support of up to 30% for special investment projects, a 10-year corporate income tax exemption in industrial parks, and a special tax regime in Diia City.
During the panel discussion "Why Choose Ukrainian Technology and Business Now?", Adviser to the Minister Andrii Teliupa, together with representatives of METI, JICA and the Kobe city government, considered how Ukrainian developments can help address Japan's social and industrial challenges.
As part of the B2B track, the Ministry of Economy and Environment facilitated business contacts between Ukrainian and Japanese companies. The team processed requests from Japanese partners and selected Ukrainian companies whose offers match their needs.
Twenty-five Ukrainian technology companies took part in the forum. They held 105 meetings with Japanese businesses, including industry giants Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Rakuten, Sysmex, ShinMaywa and Prodrone.
